Hart says Altmire does not understand the issue of drilling, Altmire calls for more domestic drilling. (UPDATED)

Former Congresswomen Melissa Hart has issued a press release taking Congressman Jason Altmire to task for a recently stated on a KDKA Radio interview:

“Oil and gas companies already hold leases on 68 million acres of federal land that they are not producing on. They hold the leases, they could drill at any point, and they are choosing not to do it…”

Hart is taking the opportunity to draw contrast.

“Altmire fails to understand that it takes time - sometimes years - to do the mapping, testing, and construction to get to the point where drilling begins.”During that time, the land would be considered ‘not in production’ but that doesn’t mean there is not an attempt being made to obtain oil and natural gas. Additionally, the fact that a company holds a lease is not an indicator that exploration on that land will yield oil and gas,” said Hart.

Hart also pointed to a new poll that from Rasmussen that showed 67% of Americans believe that we should drill off the coasts of California, Florida and other states.

Altmire issued a statement calling on oil companies to increase domestic drilling.

Ironically, it's Melissa

Ironically, it's Melissa Hart who does not know what she's talking. She is just making up facts to support her pro-oil company positions. Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgLx-AnIrno

No Altmire is scrambling to

No Altmire is scrambling to cover for the Pelosi doctrine created by environmentalist lobbyists that does not fly with the people of the 4th District. The oil companies haven't found oil in the areas Altmire is referring to, however, they know there is oil in ANWAR and the gulf coast.

Jason is on target

In Congress, Jason Altmire has been a leader. When Hart was in Congress she was a follower. Jason does what’s best for the people he represents. Hart did whatever Tom DeLay, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush told her to do regardless of how it affected the people of the 4th District.

Melissa Hart is either clueless to the fact that drilling will not affect gas prices or she is doing the bidding of the oil companies as she did throughout her Congressional career. It is a shame that she has taken this position. Melissa's position will get us nowhere and we would be stuck with the exact same problem for years to come.

Jason has consistently stood up to the oil companies and fought for lower gas prices. We have had enough of Melissa Hart. I'm sticking with Jason Altmire.

Jason Altmire has a plan

Jason Altmire has a plan that will reduce the price of gas IMMEDIATELY by approximately 25 cents per gallon.

On the other hand, Melissa Hart talks about the Chinese drilling off Cuba - a flat, and somewhat shocking lie.

Jason Altmire has been quite open about his belief that we should put all of our resources into energy sources that will make a REAL difference in our lives and are sustainable.

Why does Melissa Hart want to perpetuate a system that:

1. gives billions of dollars to terrorists
AND
2. will continue to grow scarce and run out no matter where we drill?

Let's be honest, when petroleum really runs out, we will drill EVERYWHERE, including ANWR, Florida, midwest shale oil, etc. etc.

But people with courage (and families) know that the best course of action is to focus on alternative energy right now, and delay drilling in those locations. In fact, we will get a lot more money for that oil 20 years from now than we will right now, and we will have created an alternative energy system in which the United States and Europe has the leverage, not OPEC, the terrorists, and America-haters like Chavez.

Remember one simple fact - all U.S. oil reserves will not affect significantly affect world supply or gas prices.

Therefore, the only way to really hurt the terrorists is to create a new supply of alternative energy and to drastically reduce consumption through efficiency.

Support a Congress with COURAGE and an eye on the future. Hit the terrorists where it counts. Don't listen to Melissa Hart's lies and support an energy system that supports terrorism, hurts our national security, and puts our kids and grand-kids at risk.

There is a limited amount of oil left. Let's make it count.

Am I missing something or is

Am I missing something or is Hart just arguing how she is more "pro-offshore-drilling" than Altmire is? No, Missy, the Chinese are not drilling off of Sanibel Island either. Find some other way to scare the kids at night.

When are we going to see some real leadership on this issue and get H.R. 6049 ("Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008") passed? Why can't we even extend the existing tax credits on alternate energy?

Right now, every is falling over each other trying to treat our dependence on oil...by finding some way to make oil cheap again. I'm sorry but any quick fix to lower gas prices (Did anyone say, "gas-tax-holiday"?) is pandering for votes, not sound energy policy.
