Over the last couple of days, Sen. John McCain’s rhetoric toward Russia has mostly been Georgia-supported, Wikipedia-lifted leadership posturing, including accusing Russia of wanting to restore its old empire.
But he stopped short of declaring war himself, saying there won’t be a new Cold War. To justify his new position, he made an akward statement to reporters in a press conference, saying, "In the 21st century, nations don’t invade other nations."
So in South Ossetia, are the Georgian's welcomed as liberators?
Hardball host and possible Pa. U.S. Senate candidate Chris Matthews returns to the Ellen Show today. Will we see more of this? >

Very entertaining, but have you noticed that the whole campaign is now being fought out on issues (national security, energy drilling) that are essentially Republican turf? Do you think that this portends an Obama landslide? I don't.
Russia and Georgia
John McCain seems to be one of the few leading figures who really understands Russia, Putin and the re-emergence of the old Soviet Union. To accuse him of Wickapedia lifted phrases only shows the writer's lack of understanding. Putin is as bad as any Soviet Premier - Stalin, Kruschev etc... ever was. HE is autocratic and dictatorial. He stoops to poisoning political opponents, journalists and heads of state in other countries. Ok, maybe "he" didn't do it, but the old KGB structure is very much alive with plenty of thugs ready to do his dirty work. Read the two books on the poisoning of Litvenenko for a better understanding. So is it really any surprise Russia has found an excuse to invade a sovereign nation with a democratically elected government that used to belong to the Soviet empire? Putin fooled Bush but he won't roll John McCain. McCain has always seen "KGB" in Putin's eyes. OF course Obama will blame Georgia for not sitting down and talking to the Russians! Yeah right!!!
Anyone who doesn't
Anyone who doesn't understand that a former KGB member like Putin does want to restore the old Soviet empire and many of its social controls is dangerously naive.
Further infuriating the
Further infuriating the already-seething Republican right-wing base, John McCain is has been dropping the name of Tom Ridge as his vice presidential running mate. Tom Ridge? The abortion-rights supporting former ex-governor of reliably Democratic and blue collar Pennsylvania?
Let's get a rundown on the guy who might inadvertently tip the scales for Barack Obama: http://www.236.com/news/2008/08/14/i_want_to_be_number_two_tom_ri_8288.p...
