(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) held a press conference in Washington, D.C. today calling on oil companies to drill on the more than 68 million acres owned by the federal government onshore and offshore that they currently hold leases but have not developed. Currently oil companies are producing on only about 20 percent of the acres they hold offshore and less than 30 percent of the acres they hold onshore. These unused areas could produce an additional 4.8 million barrels of oil and 44 billion cubic feet of natural gas each day. This amount of oil would nearly double current domestic oil production.

Cranberry Township, PA – This has been yet another week of inaction on the part of Jason Altmire.  Altmire is merely regurgitating the talking points given to him by his party leaders and he fails to understand the need to domestically address our petroleum supply problems or anything about the process of drilling for our own supply

“Oil and gas companies already hold leases on 68 million acres of federal land that they are not producing on.  They hold the leases, they could drill at any point, and they are choosing not to do it…”

– U.S. Congressional candidate Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta’s campaign today released a poll memo from Susquehanna Polling and Research that shows Mayor Barletta with a lead over 24-year incumbent Paul Kanjorski. It is also showed that only 39 percent of voters believe Kanjorski deserves re-election.

Dallas, PA – In the mold of a typical Washington politician, back in January, Congressman Chris Carney wrote a meaningless letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in support of the Senate version of the Foreign Intelligence Security Act (FISA), a key homeland security law that gives authority to intelligence agencies to wiretap terrorists’ communications.  In the letter, Carney said the Senate FISA bill would “thwart terrorism across the globe and save American lives here in our country.”

HAZLETON – U.S. Congressional candidate Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta today called on Congressman Paul Kanjorski to use the millions of federal dollars he secured for his now-dead inflatable dam on projects that will clean up the Susquehanna River and alleviate flooding problems in Exeter, West Pittston, Pittston, and other riverside communities.

Today I am calling upon Attorney General  Tom Corbett to start leading the effort to reduce death by gunfire in Pennsylvania by implementing via attorney general regulation a requirement that all lost and/or stolen handguns be reported to law enforcement within a reasonable amount of time of discovery.
