Thousands of independent voters in Congressional District 3 received a robo call from the Arizona Democratic Party Wednesday evening, a Democratic insider tells us.

“Yesterday, Congressman John Shadegg voted no to an economic stimulus plan that would have given a $600 tax rebate to millions of Americans,” a female voice on the call said. “The President worked with Republicans and Democrats to give our economy a shot in the arm. But Congressman Shadegg thought our tax dollars would be better spent giving himself another pay raise. Call his office 602-263-5300. Tell him that you can spend $600 better than he can.”

Arizona Democratic Party communications director Emily Bittner confirmed that the calls had been authorized.

“We thought it was really important to tell voters in the District that Shadegg voted against the economic stimulus plan,” she said. “We think it’s incredibly out of touch with voters in the District.”

“Vote after vote John Shadegg continues to prove how ineffective and out of touch he is with the people of Arizona. If he can’t support a popular bi-partisan economic stimulus plan that will put money in the pockets of taxpayers what in the world is he doing in Congress?” said Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee National Press Secretary Doug Thornell.

Bittner would not specify how many calls were made, but said it numbered in the thousands.
