After considering ending his 36-year run as Bucks County's top Republican Party official, Harry Fawkes said Thursday that he would seek reelection for another two-year term, The Bucks County Courier Times reports.
“I've been doing this for 36 years and I think I want to continue to do what I can for Bucks County and the Republican Party,” said Fawkes, the chairman of the Bucks County Republican Committee.
His decision to run again, announced in a letter to Republican Committee members this week, confirmed an earlier report by PolitickerPA's Wally Edge. He is expected to run unopposed.
“I want to keep Bucks County just as it is,” Fawkes wrote in the letter, according to The Courier Times.
“Many challenges confront the Republican Party on the national, state and local level,” he added. “I want those challenges to be met and the success of the party to continue.”
The county will be a key battleground in the contest for Pennsylvania's electoral college votes in November's presidential election. Long a Republican stronghold, the GOP recently lost its voter-registration advantage as people flocked to register as Democrats to participate in April's historic primary
Fawkes told The Courier Times he hopes to take the party registration edge back election day.
