Obama leads narrowly in PA-11, poll says

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama has a slight edge over presidential campaign rival Sen. John McCain in Pennsylvlania's 11th Congressional District, according to a new poll.

Obama, the Illionois Democrat, leads McCain, the Arizona Republican, by three points, with 43 percent of registered voters supporting him, compared to 40 percent for McCain. Fourteen percent are undecided, according to the 547-voter survey by Franklin & Marshall College.

With a margin of error of about 4 percent, Obama's lead could be statistically insignificant. But with U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Nanticoke) trailing in his reelection battle in the 11th, the Obama campaign is in the unusual position of actually performing better than the party's congressional candidate in a district.

Obama leads among women, younger voters, non-whites, Cathloics and college graduates. McCain holds a significant edge among Independents, 47 percent to 31 percent.
